Dick and Marlene Cable Family Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Dick and Marlene Cable Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by the Cable family to help “coach-up” future generations of pastors for the 21st century. The Cables have felt for many years that the best investment they ever made has been in the education of their children and grandchildren. They stated that providing scholarships for Luther Seminary students is one of the best investments they can now make in God’s Kingdom. Dick and Marlene were both born and raised in Stevens Point, Wis., before living in Eau Claire, where they raised their four children and have been longtime members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Dick worked for 50 years at Northwestern National Life Insurance and was a co-founder of the Eau Claire Community Foundation. Through this foundation Dick and Marlene have generously supported many organizations, particularly by providing scholarships at several institutions. Marlene died in 2009. Scholarships from the fund at Luther Seminary are designated for financially deserving M.Div. students preparing for ordination in the Lutheran church, with first preference for students from northwestern Wisconsin, and second preference for students from other locations.
