The Reverend John R. Lingen Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary

The Reverend John R. Lingen Endowed Scholarship Fund is established to honor the 35-year pastoral career of John Lingen. Pastor Lingen was born August 3, 1930, to Russell and Pearl Lingen. He attended Augsburg University and Luther Seminary. Ordained in 1957 at age 27, Pastor Lingen served people in both rural and suburban congregations in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1960, Pastor Lingen established Gloria Dei Lutheran Church as a mission congregation in Williston, North Dakota, that continues to thrive today. Reflecting on his ministry late in life, Pastor Lingen said: “I always saw the face of God in the people I served.” We hope sharing these words will inspire future ministers in their work.
