Van V. Bredeson Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Van V. Bredeson Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary was established in 2015 by Katherine Bredeson in memory of her husband Rev. Van V. Bredson. Van was born March 7, 1960, in Crookston, raised in Rochester, where he attended Rochester Public Schools and Bethel Lutheran Church. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1982, and Luther Theological Seminary in 1986 with a masters of divinity. He also achieved a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. In 1982, he married Katherine and raised two daughters, Megan and Kaitlyn. Van served the congregations of Bethany Lutheran Church of Rice Lake, Wis., Bethel Lutheran of Hudson, Wis., St. Phillips of Coon Rapids, and Christ Lutheran of Somerset, Wis. Before his death October 30, 2014 at the age of 54. In establishing this fund, we rejoice in and celebrate the faithful Christian witness expressed through Van’s life and ministry over the years. Van was deeply interested in the next generation of leaders. Katherine’s wish is to share his faith and love of the church with the coming generations. This scholarship provides important financial support to deserving students in the Children, Youth and Family program; or any deserving student.
