Fred and Dorothy Dressler Gatchel Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Fred and Dorothy Dressler Gatchel Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in January, 1990, by Fred and Dorothy’s son, Richard Gatchel, and his wife Elizabeth. Both Fred and Dorothy’s families were strong church leaders; they first met in the first grade in Findlay, Ohio, where both of their fathers served as ministers. Two of Dorothy’s brothers also went on to serve the church; her brother Jonas Dressler served as president of Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary, and her brother Hugo served as pastor at various churches in New York and North Carolina. Fred and Dorothy were both teachers and enjoyed contributing their musical talents in singing and piano to their congregations and to their communities. This fund was established to honor the memory of Fred, who died in 1984, and Dorothy, who died in 1989, and provides important financial support for deserving students in any degree program.
