L.O. Fossum Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. and Mrs. L.O. Fossum Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the daughter of the Fossums, Esther Holte, in 1988. Dr. L.O. Fossum was a graduate of the United Church Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., who received his Certificate of Theology in 1902. He served as a parish pastor in Slayton, Minn., before becoming an international missionary in Persia, the Orient, Armenia, and Kurds Soujbulak. During that time, he also received his Ph.D. from Oskaloosa College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and served at Emmaeus Lutheran Church in Chicago, Ill. Dr. Fossum also published several books on missions work and Kurdish history and language, and translated the four gospels, Vogt’s Bible History, Luther’s Catechism, and Sverdrup’s Explanation into Kurdish. His wife served as a teacher. This fund was established to honor the lives and memories of Dr. L.O. and Mrs. Fossum following their deaths, and provides important financial support to financially deserving students.
