Oscar and Emma Overlund Family Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Oscar and Emma Overlund Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1999, by Oscar and Emma’s son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Ervin and Sylvia Overlund. Oscar and Emma were farmers in Silverton, Ore., where they were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Oscar served on the Board of Deacons at Immanuel in the 1930s through 1950s, and Emma participated faithfully in the Ladies Aid Circle. In their spare time, Oscar enjoyed salmon fishing, deer hunting, and playing the fiddle; Emma enjoyed crocheting, playing piano, cooking, and baking traditional Swedish desserts. Neither Oscar nor Emma were able to receive higher education in their youths, but they strongly desired it for their son, Ervin, and assisted him in attending Augsburg College and Luther Theological Seminary. Both Oscar and Emma died in the mid-1970s, and this fund was established to honor their lives and memories. This fund provides important financial support for deserving students preparing for full-time ordained ministry in the ELCA.
