Irvin Junis and Harriet Lovseth Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Irvin Junis and Harriet Lovseth Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary was established in 2012 by Dr. Margaret and Mr. Ronald Hegge to rejoice in and celebrate the faithful Christian witness provided to them by Margaret’s parents—Pastor Irvin Junis and Harriet Lovseth. Junis graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, and from Luther Theological Seminary, and was ordained in 1948. He faithfully served the church as a parish pastor and chaplain in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota until his retirement for health reasons in 1981. He then served as Visitation Pastor for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Harriet served alongside him with dignity and grace. Her artistic talent enabled her to tell the Bible stories in chalk talks to audiences of children and adults. The deep imprint of their ministry continues decades after their active ministry as many former parishioners recount the impact they had on their faith and their lives. Their gentle legacy of faith continues to inspire others to serve. This scholarship provides important support annually for a financially deserving M.Div student preparing for leadership in the church with preference for students from the Midwest.
