Luther and Christine Keay Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Luther and Christine Keay Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 by the Trustees of Atonement Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Fla., to honor their pastor, the Rev. Luther Keay, who died in 1989. Luther Keay was a 1950 graduate of Luther Theological Seminary. He served as the pastor of several congregations in North Dakota, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Illinois, and Florida, and was the founding pastor of two congregations, Calvary Lutheran in Allendale, N.J., and Good Shepherd Lutheran in Naperville, Ill. Luther Keay is the grandson of the Rev. L. M. Biorn, a Lutheran pastor who immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1861 and served in the Zumbrota, Minn., area from 1879 until his death in 1908. He was a strong supporter of Luther Seminary in its earliest years, and was also influential in the merging of three Norwegian denominations to become the United Lutheran Church. This fund provides important financial support for deserving students in any degree program.
