Jacob Tanner and Agnar Tanner Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Dr. Jacob Tanner and the Rev. Agnar Tanner Endowed Scholarship Fund was established on May 23, 2000, by Lauren and Mary Egdahl in memory of Mary’s grandfather, Jacob, and father, Agnar. Jacob Tanner was an 1893 immigrant from Norway who served as a professor of theology at Luther Seminary from 1925 to 1938 and wrote many books for use in confirmation and Sunday School contexts. His son, Agnar, was a 1928 graduate of Luther Theological Seminary, and his grandson-in-law, Lauren, is a 1954 graduate of Luther Theological Seminary. The fund was established to celebrate the role of Luther Seminary in the ministry of several generations of the Tanner family, and to help equip future generations of leaders for the church. This fund provides important financial support for deserving M.Div. students preparing for ordination and full-time parish ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
