Joseph Alvestad Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Joseph Alvestad Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Joseph Alvestad in 1980. Joseph is an active lay leader and lifelong member of his congregation, Bethany Lutheran in Hurley, S.D., where he spent more than 20 years helping teach Sunday School. Joseph is a World War II veteran who was wounded and spent nearly two years in the hospital; he also worked in farming before his retirement. Joseph established this fund out of concern for the amount of debt that seminarians are incurring in their studies. This fund provides important financial support to financially deserving students in any degree program.
