Olaf Hansen Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Olaf Hansen Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in April, 1980, by Eleanor Hansen, the widow of Dr. Olaf Hansen, as well as family, friends, and colleagues of the Hansens. Dr. Hansen was a 1943 graduate of Luther Theological Seminary, and served in parishes in Illinois and New York before becoming the first missionary to Japan sent by the Evangelical Lutheran Church. After spending a total of fourteen years in Asia, he returned to the United States and joined the faculty at Luther Theological Seminary, where he taught Systematic Theology and served as the Dean of Faculty. After his sudden death, this fund was established to honor his memory. It provides important financial support for deserving students in any degree program.
