Roy and Merle Meyer Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Roy and Merle Meyer Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in December, 1988, by Roy and Merle Meyer. The Meyers were active lay leaders in their congregation, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Minn., and recognized Luther Seminary as an important training ground for future church leaders. They were long time friends of the seminary who gave generously to many projects, particularly the establishment of the Contextual Education Office and the construction of the Chapel of the Incarnation in the Olson Campus Center. Roy was a successful businessman who founded Meyer Industries, which manufactures safety equipment and poles used for electrical transmission lines. Roy died in September, 1990; Merle died in October, 2007. This fund was established to express their thanksgiving to God and to help prepare Luther Seminary students to strengthen and extend the ministries of Jesus Christ in the church and the world, and provides important support for financially deserving students enrolled in any degree program.
