Steven A. Holm Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Pastor Steven A. Holm Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by Desert Cross Lutheran Church in honor of his retirement. Steven A. Holm, youngest child of Norman and Hildegaard Holm, was raised in a rural Wisconsin community, attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. During his 42 years of ministry he served three parishes: Grace Lutheran Church in Worland, Wyoming (1970-1978); Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Casper, Wyoming (1978-1990); Desert Cross Lutheran Church in Tempe, Arizona (1990-2012). Pastor Holm served Desert Cross for 22 years—preaching, teaching and providing pastoral care in ways that enlightened, challenged and touched people deeply. As Desert Cross grew in grace and faith, ministries thrived and the church became known as a congregation that reaches out in love with time, talent and treasure, both locally and globally. Mindful of the changing demographics and the economic difficulties of beginning a new congregation from scratch, Pastor Holm spearheaded the development of Desert Cross’ second campus in Gilbert, Arizona, a fast-growing residential community. Recognizing Pastor Steven A. Holm as God’s humble servant, it is Desert Cross Lutheran Church’s joy to give thanks for his ministry at the time of his retirement by creating this endowed scholarship that will be a permanent source of funding for those who say “yes” to the call to follow Jesus. This fund will provide important support for deserving students in any degree program.
