Hovik Family Scholarship Fund
The Hovik Family Current Scholarship fund was established through an annual donor advised fund in the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation by Cliff and Ellie Hovik. Cliff graduated from South Dakota State University and headed to the Air Force for pilot training. He was a top pilot, flew in the Berlin Airlift, and trained many other pilots in his twenty-eight years of service to his country. Ellie graduated from Macalester College with majors in business and education, found her way into teaching, and was fortunate enough to work in many interesting places around the world. They met in Newfoundland while Cliff was serving in the Air Force and Elli was teaching and were married in 1961 and were later blessed with two sons. The Hoviks are active members of Christ Lutheran Church and have served their Lord through this congregation in a variety of ways. In their old age they still produce fruit and are a blessing to so very many people. Seminary students preparing for full-time ministry in the church are some of the many people blessed by Cliff and Ellie. Knowing the financial hardships of providing for their own educations, the Hoviks have a long history and a deep commitment for providing financial support for seminary students and have created this endowed scholarship fund. This is yet another example of Cliff and Elli producing fruit in their old age. This scholarship provides important support for financially deserving M.Div. senior committed to ordained ministry in the Lutheran faith, with preference to home community and home church from Canton,South Dakota; Lincoln County South Dakota; South Dakota Synod; any deserving M.Div. Senior committed to ordained ministry in the Lutheran faith.
