The Pastor Walter Wahl and Pastor Norman Wahl Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary
The children of Walter and Blanche Wahl established the Wahl Family Endowed Scholarship to honor their parents’ commitment to the faith, as well as celebrating the pastoral careers of Walter and son, Norman. Pastor Walter Wahl was born in 1921 in Bowman, North Dakota. He was called into the service of our country during WWII, an experience that led him to seek out greater answers through faith and peace. He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary in 1952 and served five parishes in Minnesota and Iowa, retiring from First Lutheran of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, in 1986, after having served as Senior Pastor for nine years. Pastor Norman Wahl was born in 1954 in Montevideo, Minnesota, during his father’s first call in Watson, Minnesota. He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary in 1979 and earned a Doctorate of Ministry from Luther in 1997. He served four parishes in South Dakota and Minnesota, as well as being called to Augsburg College (now University) as its first Director of Church Relations. He retired from Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota, in 2020, after having served there for 24 years as Executive Pastor. All six children of Walter and Blanche – James Dodd, Roger Dodd, Carolyn Wahl, Norman Wahl, David Wahl, and Bruce Wahl – have served the church their entire lives having been given excellent examples of servanthood by their parents. This fund was established to provide financial support for deserving Luther Seminary students who hear God’s call.
