William L. Thuemmel Student Aid Endowed Scholarship

The William L. Thuemmel Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Eleonore Thuemmel in honor of her husband William’s 75th birthday on November 5, 2011. Bill earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1970 which prepared him for a career in international agricultural education. Bill served on the faculty at the University of Guam, Michigan State and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Bill served on several short assignments in Jamaica, Lithuania and Taiwan. Bill and Ellen met while he was serving in the U.S. Army in West Germany and were married in 1962. The establishment of this fund demonstrates Ellen’s continual support of Bill’s career and his passion for agricultural education. This fund will support international students who intend to return to their home country to serve in rural settings; or a missionary in agricultural development assisting communities by setting up co-ops for local products or other similar ventures.
