Ormal and Helen Nelson Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Ormal and Helen Nelson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in January, 2009, by Paul and Judith Nelson to honor the memory of Paul’s parents, Ormal and Helen Nelson. Ormal was a farmer and an early resident in a Norwegian settlement outside of Elkhorn, Wis. He and Helen were active lay leaders in their congregation, Sugar Creek Lutheran Church, and they recognized Luther Seminary as an important training ground for future church leaders. Paul remembers his father encouraging him to give to Luther Seminary, knowing that his gift would strengthen not only the seminary but the wider Christian church throughout this country and the world. Scholarships from this fund will be awarded to financially deserving students enrolled in any degree program.
