Richard C. Sampson Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Richard C. Sampson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established through a gift from Richard Sampson’s estate in October 2009, with the assistance of his executor Mary Fullerton. Richard C. Sampson was a life-long Lutheran with a strong belief in the importance of excellent pastors for the sake of the church. He was a civil servant who was also a patriotic veteran of World War II. Several congregations were influential in his life: Faith Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota (the congregation that later became Incarnation Lutheran Church in Shoreview), Redeemer Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in Tucson, Arizona. Richard was a humble, gentle, intelligent man who, through his frugality and generosity, wished to help make it possible for women and men to answer God’s call to leadership in the Lutheran church. This fund provides important support for deserving Master of Divinity students at Luther Seminary who are committed to their Lutheran confessional identity.
