John and Sharon Haugo Current Scholarship Fund II

The John and Sharon Haugo Current Scholarship Fund #2 was established in 2012 with the hope and knowledge that this Fund can help people who feel God’s call to ministry receive a theological education and go on to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with generations of men, women and children. John Haugo was born and raised on a farm near Waubun, Minnesota but is, as he likes to say, a “full-blooded Norwegian” because all of his grandparents emigrated from Norway. Sharon grew up in Saint Anthony Park and attended Saint Anthony Park Lutheran Church. In 1951, they were married in the Muskego Chapel on the Luther Seminary campus and they lovingly raised four children. John earned his undergraduate degree from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, and a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota, and enjoyed a career that included teaching High School Math, coaching football, leading a statewide educational computing services organization and serving as CEO of several Minnesota-based healthcare software companies. John and Sharon have been active, supportive leaders in the ELCA Fund for Leaders in Mission and in Saint Paul Area Synod projects. They established this scholarship in honor of Sharon’s deep Lutheran faith rooted in the Saint Paul Area Synod. This fund provides scholarships annually for a deserving student from the St. Paul Area Synod, with second preference for a deserving student from the Northwest Minnesota Synod, and third preference for any deserving student.
