James E. Hammer and Frederick M. Dawson Endowed Scholarship Fund

The James E. Hammer and Frederick M. Dawson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established as the James E. Hammer Endowed Scholarship Fund by Frederick and Karen Dawson in November, 1977. James Hammer, a personal friend of the Dawsons, was an extremely active lay leader who served as president of several ALC congregations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Hammer served faithfully despite physical difficulties related to polio. His primary interest was in world missions. This fund was established to honor his memory after he died suddenly at the age of 45; the name was changed to include his friend, Frederick Dawson, following his death in 1999. This fund provides important financial support for deserving international students.
