David and Florence Tuff Endowed Scholarship Fund
The David and Florence Tuff Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary was established in 2012 by David and Florence Tuff with the hope and knowledge that this fund can help people, who feel God’s Call to ministry, access a theological education and go on to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with generations of men, women and children. David graduated from Luther Seminary in 1961. His wife, Florence, did substitute teaching in the St. Paul and Minneapolis school systems and was an educator wherever they served. They accepted the call from the Mission Department to serve in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Papua New Guinea. Their five children attended schools at Katherine Lehmann School in Wau, PNG and St. Peter Lutheran College in Brisbane, Australia. They served in various positions for thirteen years. When they returned, David enrolled in Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Rochester Methodist Hospital. He was called by Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin to a chaplaincy position at Winnebago Mental Health Institute and Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. After retirement he worked at conflict resolution in the East Central Synod of Wisconsin. They moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin to be nearer their children. They helped develop a 36 unit senior facility named The Oaks,in their eight years there, they worked to establish a formal garden and walking trail. In 2011 they moved to Lee Square in Robbinsdale, Minnesota where they now reside. They have been active and supportive of the Cherish Our Children Initiative of the ELCA, a ministry of education and prayer to raise awareness in congregations of the predatory commercial sex industry, as well as other causes. David and Florence are members of Valley of Peace Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota. This scholarship provides important support annually to full-time students of any ethnic origin preparing for ordained ministry.
