Jim and Karen Noss Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Jim and Karen Noss Endowed Scholarship Fund was given by Dennis and Carol Anderson through the South Dakota Synod of the ELCA. The Nosses were longtime Lutheran missionaries in Cameroon. The gift was given, in part, in response to the South Dakota Synod’s “Answer the Call” effort, in which the synod and its congregations intentionally sought out and encouraged young people to consider preparing for professional leadership in the church. Part of this effort included establishing generous financial support for those students. When “Answer the Call” began, approximately 10 students from South Dakota were enrolled in seminary annually. By 2009, 60 students from the South Dakota Synod were enrolled in seminary preparing to be pastors. Scholarships from the fund will provide financial assistance to senior students in the M.A. or M.Div. program who are members of the ELCA from South Dakota, or as a second preference, from Region III of the ELCA.
