Julius O. and Mabel N. Lokken Loan and Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Julius O. and Mabel N. Lokken Loan and Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in January, 1990, by Mabel Lokken to honor the memory of her husband, Julius, who died in 1964. Julius was a World War I veteran. Mabel was a math and English teacher in northern Wisconsin before becoming a school superintendent. She was an active lay leader in her congregation, Stanfold Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, Wis., who recognized Luther Seminary as an important training ground for future church leaders. Her wish was for the Gospel to be preached properly and by many people. This fund was established to express Mabel’s thanksgiving to God and to help prepare Luther Seminary students to strengthen and extend the ministries of Jesus Christ in the church and the world. It provides important support in the form of loans for financially deserving students. In the event there is no demand by the students to borrow money in any given year, this fund provides up to three scholarships for financially deserving students. The principal is to remain intact for 15 years (until 2015), after which time the assets may be used at the discretion of the Luther Seminary Board of Directors.
