Magda Bratland Endowed Scholarship Fund in memory of Harry Montgomery
The Magda Bratland Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Magda Bratland in memory of Harry Montgomery. Chaplain Harry Montgomery was born in Brooklyn, New York, June 19, 1914. He graduated from Wagner College in 1935 and from Luther Theological Seminary in 1939. He was ordained at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, N.Y., in September, 1939, where he served as pastor in the American Division until he entered the chaplaincy of the Army on June 26, 1942. He was chaplain of the 87th Mountain Infantry. He was killed in action on March 3, 1945. A characteristic of Harry’s Christian life was his utter confidence in God’s goodness. This fund provides important financial support for Master of Divinity students with preference for students from New York or New Jersey.
