Ruth L. and Sheridan Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Ruth L. and Sheridan Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in December, 1985, by the people of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, Florida. The Browns were active lay leaders in their congregation and recognized Luther Seminary as an important training ground for future church leaders. Sheridan was an avid musician who enjoyed arranging and directing in the Chorus of the Keys chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He died in July, 1977. This fund was established in his memory and to honor his wife, Ruth, who died less than a year after its creation. This fund provides important financial support for students preparing for ministry to Native Americans (American Indians). If there are no students at Luther Seminary preparing for this ministry, the income for that year is to be made available to other ELCA seminaries with the same restrictions. If there are no students in ELCA seminaries preparing for this ministry, the earnings are to be added to the principal amount.
