Marilyn and Thomas Breckenridge Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Marilyn and Thomas Breckenridge Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 in gratitude to God for their blessings. Marilyn and Tom, along with their daughter, Sarah, are theologically trained. Marilyn received her M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Luther Seminary allowing her to claim her own identity and preparing her for leadership in the church. In 1979, she was ordained and served as a parish pastor and was Assistant to the Bishop in the St. Paul Area Synod. Thomas received his M.Div. from Hartford Seminary and later, his Th.M. from United Seminary. He served in United Church of Christ congregations until he heard God’s call to work as a financial advisor. He works with clients to create sound financial plans which support the work of charitable organizations. M. Sarah Breckenridge Schwietz, Tom and Marilyn’s daughter, received her M.A. and M.Div. from Luther Seminary in 1995. With this endowed scholarship, Marilyn and Tom hope to prepare church leaders who are theologically astute, able to proclaim God’s love as known best in Jesus Christ and prepared to serve in a rapidly changing world which calls for an inclusive approach putting faith into action for the good of the world.;This endowed scholarship provides important support annually for deserving M.Div or M.Min students preparing for leadership positions in the ELCA.
