Orville D. and Kathleen M. Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Orville D. and Kathleen M. Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in May, 2002, by Orville and Kathleen Johnson. The fund was established in thanksgiving and praise to God for the many blessings God has given them, in appreciation for the excellent education their son, Kent, received at Luther Seminary to spread the gospel in his calling as a pastor, and in their concern as a family that future generations of pastors and professional lay leaders be prepared for ministry and sharing God’s Word. Orville is a respected business leader in the St. Croix Valley, and both he and Kathy have been community leaders, working to strengthen a wide range of ministries and nonprofits. Orville served as chair of the board of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and also served on the Luther Seminary Called and Sent campaign committee. Both Orv and Kathy are very active at their congregation, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn. This scholarship fund at Luther Seminary provides important support for financially deserving first- or final-year Master of Divinity students in good academic standing, with preference for recent graduates of a midwestern ELCA college.
