Kathryn S. Cappelen Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Kathryn S. Cappelen Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in September, 2001, by Kathryn Cappelen to express her thanksgiving to God for her calling as an educator and to help Luther Seminary students prepare to strengthen and extend the ministries of Jesus Christ in the church and the world. Kathryn was an active lay leader in her congregation, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis., which she attended from 1937 until her death in January, 2007. She served as an educator in Richland Center, Wis., and the La Crosse School District for thirty-nine years, teaching in the classroom for fourteen years and consulting and overseeing curriculum until her retirement in 1986. This fund provides important support for financially deserving students, with first preference for members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis., and second preference for students from the La Crosse Area Synod of the ELCA.
