Gerhard and Ivern Frost Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Gerhard and Ivern Frost Endowed Scholarship Fund was established as the Gerhard Frost Endowed Scholarship Fund in November, 1987, by his wife, Ivern, and his friends, family, and colleagues to honor his memory. The fund name was expanded to honor Ivern’s memory after her death in 2003. Gerhard was a 1934 graduate of Luther Theological Seminary who served parishes in Montana and North Dakota before becoming a Bible professor at Luther College in 1954. He joined the faculty of Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary as a professor of catechetics. He published several books of poetry, including Seasons of a Lifetime and The Color of the Night. He died in May, 1987. Ivern grew up in Montevideo, Minnesota, and was an excellent singer and pianist. She was active in supporting her husband by directing the music ministries at his parishes, producing Sunday School plays, and critiquing and editing his sermons and poetry. She enjoyed entertaining students and faculty in her home. She was also a vocal advocate for the rights of gays and lesbians, especially for their ordination. This fund provides one scholarship annually for a financially deserving student enrolled in any degree program.
