Norman E. Olsen Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Norman E. Olsen Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in May, 1998, by Luther Seminary’s Board of Directors. Norman Olsen served in the Pacific Theater during World War II before returning home and becoming a farmer in Canton, S.D. He was an active lay leader in his congregation, Canton Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. The Luther Seminary Board of Directors honored Norman Olsen’s memory by establishing this fund, using a portion of a generous unrestricted bequest from his estate. This fund provides important financial support for deserving students with first preference for members of Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, S.D.; second preference for students from the South Dakota Synod of the ELCA; and final preference for graduates of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
