The Calvary Lutheran Church of Edina Endowed International Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary

Calvary Lutheran Church of Edina began with a small group of community Lutherans requesting and receiving permission from the School Board to hold services at the Cahill School located at 70th Street and Cahill Avenue. The first service was held at the school on January 28, 1934. Calvary then built their first church in 1938 at 5420 W. 70th Street and held the first worship service on December 11, 1938. Calvary recognized the need to expand and purchased the Antrim Road property in 1958. The first service on Antrim was held on May 8, 1960. We have loved worshipping God in this building, celebrating and grieving life milestones together and have made many good and faithful relationships with each other and community. For all of our years together in ministry we were led and served by exemplary pastors who, by God’s grace, were called ministry with us.

Calvary Lutheran Church-Edina establishes this fund to make a transformational and impactful difference for the future of the church and to honor our Legacy that recognizes our past and present relationships and supports an investment that will further the mission of the church, throughout the world, in the education and training of future generations of church leaders. With this gift we extend our Legacy – to Welcome, Worship and Witness in Jesus’ name – to others.

The PURPOSE of this fund is to provide scholarships annually for a student from Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and/or Lithuania, with a second preference for a student from Nigeria, or third preference for any current student called to ministry. The student recipient may be a participant in any degree program then offered by Luther Seminary.
