The Norma Baalson Elsasser Marrion Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary
This scholarship was established in memory of Norma Baalson Elsasser Marrion by her loving husband Gerald Marrion. It is also in honor of Norma’s father, Reverend Arthur Baalson, a 1929 graduate of Luther Seminary.
Norma Baalson was born on March 3, 1937. She was a registered nurse of over fifty years. Norma served on church boards, choirs, committees, and charities. She started the parish nurse program at Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, Arizona. Her life was characterized by faith, hope, charity, an ever-present helping hand. She never met a stranger, she was always smiling. Norma was a mother of two children, and had eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
As a young woman in 1958 or 1959, Norma wrote this prayer:
Dear Lord:
Because you are not only Lord to me, but also Friend and Redeemer, I ask that from this day forth thou wilt daily strengthen me in Faith, unite my heart to give Thee praise and to seek and to employ those virtues, the fruits of the Spirit that glorify Thee. As a nurse, O Lord, give me kindness, patience, obedience, love, manual dexterity, alertness and a sense of empathy for those sick in the body and in mind. Give me, O God, the increased ability for accurateness, for quick thinking, for good judgement and common sense. May my mind be sharpened with concentrated study, may my memory uphold me and I may be able to draw on that which I have learned and apply it to those of thy creatures I care for. I pray for courage, confidence, boldness and strength for each test I take, each bath I give, each medication I do. Lord, be by my side, hold Thou my hand - each day - each step of the way. Hear me, in my unworthiness. I glorify Thy name for Thy continued mercy & love towards me.Praise be to Thy name!
